Making Du’aa for Children

Abu Hurayrah said that RasoolAllah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said about ayah 36 in Surah Ale Imran:”Every newly born baby is touched by Shaytan when it is born, and the baby starts crying because of this touch, except Maryam & her son. Abu Hurayrah then said, “Read if you will:

وِإِنِّى أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ الشَّيْطَـنِ الرَّجِيمِ
(And I seek refuge with You for her and for her offspring from Shaytan, the outcast).” ”
‎(The Two Sahihs recorded this Hadith.)[Muslim :: Book 33 : Hadith 6429]

This ayah shows us how Maryam’s mother made duáa for Maryam & her Children even before they were born! And it shows us how Allah responded to her du’as…

It teaches us how important it is for us to make du’a for our children. Today we ask Allah for everything for our kids but forget to ask Him to protect them from our biggest enemy, shaytan  — who has promised Allah that he will lead everyone to the Hell Fire!

Ibn Abbas related that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to seek protection for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn by saying:

أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ ، وَهَامَّةٍ ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ

“I seek protection for you in the Perfect Words of Allah from every devil, and every beast and every envious blameworthy eye.”

(Al Bukhari 4/119)

Let’s follow his sunnah, insha Allah!

May Allah keep us and our progeny under His special protection and care! Aameen!

Allah provides for whom He wills…

“Every time Zakariyya entered her room, he found her supplied with provision. He asked, ‘Oh Maryam, from where is this [coming] to you?” She said, “It is from Allah . Indeed, Allah provides for whom He wills without account.” (Surah Aal-Imran 3:37)

The story of Hanna, her daughter Maryam (Mary) and her son Eesa (Jesus) is central to Surah Aal-Imran, as they are the family of Imran. These stories are so full of lessons, I had a difficult time choosing just one verse.

In this segment of the story, Maryam (Alayhissalam) is living her life in the worship of Allah, under the care of the Prophet Zakariyya (Alayhissalam). Zakariyya is surprised to find off-season fruits in her room whenever he entered it. This was a miracle (Karamat) which Allah bestowed on Maryam.

In this story, Maryam reminds Zakariyya, and teaches us, an important lesson that Rizq (sustenance) is from Allah, and He can provide for us miraculously without any limits. In this age of materialism, this is something we often forget.

Taking this lesson to heart, Zakariyya prays for a son despite being of an old age, and Allah grants it to him. Let us too take a lesson from this, and ask Allah to assist us in obtaining whatever we seek, and never lose hope in his Mercy.

If we work hard, put our trust in Him and ask of Him, then we too can experience Rizq being provided in miraculous ways in our lives. I know many people who can testify to this, including myself.

The Strength of Yaqeen in Allah -subhanahu wa ta’ala

He said: “O Maryam! From where have you got this?” She said, “This is from Allâh.” Verily, Allâh provides sustenance to whom He wills, without limit.” “At that moment (there and then/immediately), Zakariyâ invoked his Lord…”[Surat Ale Imraan, 3:first part of ayah 38]

When Zakariyya Alayhissalam saw that Maryam Alayhissalam got Rizq from Allah, he immediately made duaa to Allah, having the Yaqeen that if Allah could provide for her from Ghayb (unseen means) then He [subhanahu wa ta’ala] could also provide for him what he sought, despite he being of old age (120+ years) and his wife being barren (88+ years).

When most people see others with what they don’t have, they either start pitying themselves or they become jealous.

What should our attitude be?

What is the attitude of a Prophet?

✦”At that moment(there and then/immediately), Zakariyâ called upon his Lord, saying, ‘My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.’ So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, “Indeed, Allah gives you good tidings of John, confirming a word from Allah and [who will be] honorable, abstaining [from women], and a prophet from among the righteous.” He said, “My Lord, how will I have a boy when I have reached old age and my wife is barren?” The angel said, “Such is Allah ; He does what He wills.” ✦

[Surat Ale Imraan, 3:38-40]

INDEED WITHOUT DOUBT,

Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) gives, grants, blesses according to one’s Yaqeen (certainty) in Him.
